"Emotions are timeless and are still with us. They build and destroy. In different forms they can be the driving engine and a brake. They can be our compass and element that sometimes we don't know to control. They are like a golden stitch, that interweaves our lives. Emotion, a lady in gold, that is always with you."
Dame d'Or definitely mines the same aldehydic-floral inspiration that 1907's Geneveive does, but the use of ylang-ylang alongside the jasmine in the heart gives it a much, smoother creamier impression. In fact it serves as a wonderful encapsulation of the use of aldehydes in classic perfumes in general, displaying, as it does, the majesty of underscoring the ever long sparkling sensation aldehydes provide with a rich counterpoint of spices (cinnamon, clove), woods (sandal, cedar, patchouli) and a hint of civet.
Dame d'Or is inspired by the Gustav Klimt painting Lady In Gold, which, co-incidentally, now hangs in New York's Neue Galerie which was finished in 1907.
